sarah avilés

Sarah Avilés is a neurospicy Chicana writer, director, and comedian from Los Angeles. She creates character-driven, absurdist dark comedies inspired by her kooky upbringing, fascination with fringe communities, and love of misfits.

She co-created and developed a mystery-comedy scripted podcast with Sonoro Media, was a Foundation House Artist in Residence, and a finalist in the Ojalá Ignition Lab in partnership with Universal Content Productions. Most recently, she was sponsored to attend The 2025 Sundance Film Festival with Latino Filmmakers' Network.
Her writing earned her a scholarship to Regent’s University London where she lived for three years, developing a deep appreciation for cozy jumpers, English banter, and learned not to take Southern California sunshine for granted. Sarah is also a member of the Chicana Director's Initiative and has been on the short film programming teams for SXSW, HollyShorts, and AFI.
Sarah's mother has requested she start making "nice films", but the chances of that happening anytime soon are as the Magic 8 Ball says... very doubtful.
